WIRE WOUND RESISTORS

Wire Wound Resistors

Start with the function the resistor performs in your equipment. Industrial wirewound resistors are used in motor control, test equipment, industrial automation and OEM assemblies. Replacement selection needs to consider the original resistance, electrical loading, physical dimensions and connections together.

A wirewound component is not the same as a complete neutral earthing resistor, braking resistor or load bank system. If you need a complete assembly rather than a component, tell our team about the equipment and application so they can direct you to the relevant product range.

WIRE WOUND RESISTORS

Selecting an industrial or OEM wirewound resistor

Resistance and tolerance

Specify the required resistance in ohms and the acceptable tolerance. For matched sets, resistor chains or a replacement part, include the matching requirement or original product reference. The standard range and tolerance tables below describe the listed options; ask our team to confirm the selection for your application.

Load and operating duty

Provide the required power dissipation and whether loading is continuous, intermittent or pulsed. Include operating voltage or current, pulse duration and repetition where known. Do not select a resistor by wattage alone: the load profile, mounting and installation conditions also need review.

Former, mounting and connections

Compare round and oval former options with the available space and mounting arrangement. Specify fixed or adjustable tapping requirements and the connection type, such as axial leads, solder lugs or tapping bands. For a replacement, supply dimensions and a photograph or drawing of the existing installation.

Installation conditions

Describe the ambient conditions, enclosure, ventilation and nearby heat sources. If chassis or heat-sink mounting is proposed, provide the arrangement for review rather than assuming an increased power rating applies to every resistor.
